Sample Answer

The given line graph illustrates the percentage of population aged 65 and above in three countries - USA, Sweden and Japan from 1940 to 2040.

Overall, the proportion of elderly people in these three countries has shown an increasing trend from 1940 to 2040.

In 1940, USA and Sweden had an elderly population of 9% and 7% respectively while in Japan it was the lowest at 5%. In the subsequent years up till 1980, the proportion of elderly in both USA and Sweden increased dramatically and reached 15% and 13% respectively while during the same period, it reached its crust for Japan at about 3%.

Going forward from 2020, all the three countries are expected to see an increase in the elderly population. While USA and Sweden will see a significant increase from 18% and 16% to 25% and 23% respectively, it is anticipated that Japan will overtake both of these countries and touch a high 26% figure.
